The Austin Marathon is here again. I can’t believe it’s been a year already. With 18,000 runners this year compared to last years 20,000, one wonders whether the whole Lance drama had any effect on the outcome. I told a friend this morning on Facebook that one persons mistake in poor judgment shouldn’t ruin the hope for thousands of people. This organizations still helps those fighting cancer everyday regardless of what Lance did. I highly doubt anyone running today was thinking about him.
Instead they were probably thinking about their loved ones, or maybe they were thinking about their time and pace, or perhaps how bad they had to go pee.
Either way you look at it, these people deserve a big ol HIGH FIVE!
Every year there is usually a big group running for one particualr person.
This years group that stood out was TEAM KATE, with their yellow shirts and big smiles they were hard to miss! I bet KATE is pretty great!
I couldn’t believe the age diversity in this years race, from 8 yr olds to 70 year olds. It was awesome!
Since Austin is also known for “KEEPING IT WEIRD” this was not only a marathon, but a fashion show too! Bright colored tutu’s to match brightly colored sneakers. It wouldn’t be a race without The FLASH
Barefoot runners, guys carrying TIRES, people running while Facebooking were just a few of the things that made me look twice. One on-looker said it best in her poster “You are all Nucking Futs”
This race means so many different things to so many people. I saw heros and mom’s, husbands, daughters and brothers all running towards a common goal, not a finish line, but 18,000 steps toward healing and fighting for a great cause!
