If you have ever had the opportunity to drive the Texas highways you know all about the blue bonnets. What a sight to see! Miles and miles of blue… bonnets, little blue/ violet flowers that brighten our cement filled commutes home. They make being stuck in traffic bearable. They bloom in waves and only last for a short period of time. They also happen to be a popular location for photo ops.
So when I was asked to recreate an old family photo in the blue bonnets I jumped at the chance. However, most of these flowers are along the highway so it’s not the safest place to stop with little ones. We drove an hour west of Austin to Turkey Bend. It was the most incredible field of blue bonnets I had ever seen.
It made me want to jump out of the car and go running through the field, like the scene in The Wizard of Oz when they go sprinting through the poppies. Only should you attempt this, you may want to have a good witch watching over you or at least a pair of boots. I was wearing flip-flops.
Little Lillie was also bombarded with these prickly, painful, pokey little suckers . They were in her shoes and dress. OW! She rallied on and was all better with the help of some bubbles and cuddles with mom. Way to go Mom! 🙂 Big brother was so sweet consoling her and kissing her boo-boo! What a sweet big brother!
Our adventure successful and the reenactment shot came out fabulous!
