My sister is about to have her fourth child in a week or three and I couldn’t be more excited for her. I started writing this blog ( a few weeks ago) about the time I finished editing her latest maternity session. There were a few shots that came out pretty sexy, like….”DAMN, GENA!” sexy! It got me thinking about how Gena’s journey started very differently, but I wasn’t sure how to go about sharing her journey through my eyes.
I wanted to write about how awesome it has been to see my sister transform again and again over the last decade. How she told me she was pregnant for the first time! How my first image of her in my mind came to be the very first “Maternity” picture I ever took.
I was gonna say how amazing it was to see her deliver her first-born into this world like a CHAMP! WOW! I was going to share how awesome it was that I got to cut her cord. WOW,again!!
I was going to write about her second journey into motherhood. A journey that would again transform her, not just her body, but how it almost stripped her of all her power that she had earned. I saw her fight and push her way through the hells that came at her and how that made her even stronger.
I was going to tell you that with each book she devoured and poured her heart into, she became stronger. With each woman who was by her side to listen and love her, she became stronger.
I was gonna write about how inspiring it was to see her regain her power by diving head first into a new world. A world that welcomed her and showed her she was on the right path. Empowered her and taught her things that blew her mind! A world that made her feel her own power!
The Birth World.
I was gonna say what a phenomenal sight it was to see her once again transform, but now this time into her natural form……..Super Woman. She was, mother of two girls, a wife, a business woman, a Radio personality, a TV host, a Doula in training, one sexy mama and overall Bad Ass. Cheers G!
She absorbed as much information she could get her hands on. Read every article she found online. Attended any class she could afford. She traveled hundreds of miles to acquire the ancient methods of the Rebozo. Her thirst for all things birth guided her to where she is today….
I mainly wanted to write about how fascinating it has been to see my sister come out of her shell and blossom into a Woman that is fearless and brave, courageous and driven. A woman that is not afraid to rock the boat, a woman who refuses the bullshit lies in the world that are told to women and does something about it instead of talking about it. A force of nature. She is also human. She loses her wallet like everyone else, forgets where she put her keys, constantly. Like every mom forgets to shower, feed herself and is pulled in 20 different directions 24/7. If her head wasn’t attached… well you know. She is a real person.
As her sister it’s been stupendous to see her take her power and own it!
Every woman should feel sexy, empowered, it’s what it’s all about!
