This past summer I had the privilege to hang out and photograph a work of art in progress. The very talented graphic designer Tatiana DeFigueiredo of Portland, Oregon agreed to let me photograph her work from a blank canvas to a finished product. I have always been fascinated by painters and the power they have with their brushes. Massive creativity flowing from thier fingers onto a stark white canvas that’s just waiting to be caressed with the soft bristles dripping with paint. Sorry, Art is very sexy! 🙂
I love to watch Tatiana paint. It’s so amazing to see her technique, the passion in her eyes is focused and sharp, yet her hand just glides onto the canvas and a piece of art begins before my eyes. (I tried to be a painter, but it never came out the way I wanted to so I picked up a camera instead.)
This particular piece that I witnessed come to life was a commission piece for a client of a publicity photo for a performance from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night featuring Anne Hathaway, Audra McDonald and Raul Esparza.I photographed Tatiana on a beautiful warm summer day in June 2011. I will never forget the way the sun felt and the crispness of the gorgeous clean air of Oregon. This session only lasted an hour, but she was able to transform the blank canvas into the start of something beautiful! I am so blessed to have met Tatiana, not only does she have talent flowing from her fingertips, she is also one of my closest friends on the planet, my sister from another mother you might say. Just the other day we had the same idea 1800 miles apart. How cool is that!
After all the struggles and hardships I endured while in Portland, it was all worth it if only to have met Tatiana. She continues to amaze me with her passion for art and lust for life! I am forever grateful for her friendship and her passion to love and show others how truly beautiful the world is through her eyes. From encaustic paintings to advertisements for Banana Republic her creativity just doesn’t quit! I could go on and on about her talent, but you really need to see Design By Tatiana for yourself.
