According to Wikipedia ; The Pennybacker Bridge in Austin, Texas bridges Lake Austin to connect north and south Loop 360 highway, also known as the “Capital of Texas Highway.” The road is widely considered one of the most scenic urban drives in central Texas, in large part due to this arched weathering steel bridge and the rolling hills that flank the road. This bridge shows up in many pamphlets throughout Austin. I’ve seen it in bank lobby’s and on several tourist attraction guides. Being new to the city and the fact that I love bridges, (I have Portland, Oregon to thank for that), I just had to check this bridge out.
Not only did I get to photograph this beautiful landscape I also got to shoot a maternity session with my client who kicked my bootay climbing up the side of a cliff …7 months pregnant no less. “Just don’t slip!” was all I said to her as she trekked with me in sandals lookin all cute and prego! Kudos to you Missy! You Rock girl! You make being pregnant look like a walk in the park. 🙂
The view from the cliff side is definitely worth the smallish hike (if you can call it a hike). This spot is usually visited by couples and their Whole Foods prepared lunches and bottles of spring water. Young and Old alike with doggy in tow, they sit on the uneven earth and watch the world go by. Ahhhhhh. Yes, it’s lovely with the sound of the river and even with the humming of the semi’s below. Even the occasional honk from the rushing traffic cannot disturb the tranquilness.
I can not wait to go there for some night photography shots. Sunset must be spectacular. I’m excited to capture more images of this beautiful and historic bridge throughout the year. Pennybacker, I love you.
