Do you remember your favorite toy? Do you wish you had a picture of your teddy bear or favorite toy from your childhood? Remembering those tiny pieces from your past can create a well of wonderful emotions and memories. I remember when I received Joy Joy my cuddly, brown fuzzy bear that my parents bought on a trip to Lake Tahoe. Twenty-Eight years later he sits on a shelf in the closet next to Mustard, my very loved and worn out plush dog that I’ve had since I was three years old. I doubt I will ever part with them. They went everywhere I did when I was a kid. They’ve even traveled to Europe with me and are now here in Austin, Texas. Mustard got his name from his big yellow eyes and Joy- Joy got his name from the big white box he came in that said JOY across the top in bright green letters.
Seeing my nieces play with their favorite cuddly bears and dolls made me think of my childhood attachment to my plush companions. So while they were out I decided to make some memories for them and for their room. Your child’s favorite dolly or stuffed bear can become a piece art for their room now. Why wait till their older to remind them of their ratty old bear they used to tote everywhere with them. Let it be a part of who they are now. Let “Dolly” or “Coffee” become a masterpiece for them to share at show and tell, or show off when company comes over.
